THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS by Jon Ronson published by Simon and Schuster Paperback, 2004, 259 pages.

This read is definitely on the Paranormal, mainly within the intelligence community and the military. There are many named sources, such a Major General Stubblebine who at his word was head of Army Intelligence back in the day circa 1983. Curiously I have recently seen him on a video made within the last couple of years. He was talking about the 911 inside job, and very much in agreement with conspiracy folks. The book gets some things about the Special Forces right but much of falls flat to anyone who may have served with that unit either in the near or distant past. In fact he mixes Intel and Special Ops as if they weren't separate commands. There is a very good section on what is called "The First Earth Battalion" and a former Lieutenant Colonel named Jim Channon who wrote a manual for Counter Insurgency to be conducted by Special Forces Soldiers, some of them bearing animals and gifts to their enemies. It was said that Channon was asked by Former Army Chief of Staff General Ed (Shy) Meyer if he would organize it and command it but he turned that down as too far outside military parameters at that time (Late seventies). Perhaps if he couldn't get a regular BN that might have pissed off his "Officer Peer Group"? Sort of like the Soup Nazi saying "NO Full Colonel for YOU!"
Much of this book deals with men trying to sit quietly and guess what will happen from telepathic thoughts aimed at what terrorists "might do" it seems the unit fell apart due to boredom and curiouser the price they had to pay for their own coffee, which I can imagine might come to the fore if there is too much thinking and not enough action. This was at Ft Meade MD recognized Army wide as a place many kooks originate. That is they can pass tests with very high grades but can't cross the street without being hit by a Bus. It is also the home of many Fat Asses who sit all day behind computers and can't be deployed anywhere because they "know too much" they inhabit large secure rooms that are labeled SCIF's (Secured Compartmentalized Intelligence Facilities) in the world of the SCIF you only talk to those inside of what you might or might not be doing. There are many SCIF's at that location and on the property next door inhabited by, dare I say it? The NSA. The home of many mirrors but NO SMOKING throughout.
General Stubblebine comes across as a good guy. very concerned with the fact that he, after trying very hard on thousands of occasions, has failed to Levitate from the floor or walk through his own walls. The Goat thing is about trying to kill them with fierce staring and total concentration. It is alleged it happened at least once when some Marshal Arts Guru did it at Ft. Bragg, the home of many goats with their bleaters surgically removed. The info that Mr. Ronson has is (Most of it) very old, but it still makes a good read. Oh yeah, the story of the guy who went out the window on an LSD trip. He was CIA and eventually his family was recognized and I believe compensated for it by President Ford, although it happened in very early fifties. It is really the saddest part of the book. Except of course if you might like shedding tears over all the wasted time and effort not to mention taxpayer dollars. But, then again they may have succeeded, and the alleged failures just a cover story. That could be the SMOKE.

In regard to CHRIS MATHEWS ARTICLE POSTED ON ARTICLES:
I can't figure how anyone with such a shallow knowledge of history can dump all of us into the "insane category", this LIBERAL ELITIST gives liberals a black eye. I am sure the Neo Cons can now back him for a senate run in PA. This draft dodging puke had a stateside assignment in the PEACE CORPS! This guy touts himself as historian and gets Pearl Harbor day and the fourth of July mixed up. He is the most tongue tied commentator anywhere with the possible exception of Glenn Beck who seems to be of similar intelligence but at least he works for Rupert Murdoch on FOX where he belongs. The appalling lack of credibility of this guy is amazing unless an idiot brother in law got him his high paying job on MSNBC where he gets to remind us constantly of his INSIDER status going back to JFK. This Lackey will say anything and back it up with no more than his own opinion, which of course he is as entitled as any of us to have. I am certainly, no Neo Con but being labeled by Chris Mathews as INSANE perhaps can be worn as a badge of honor, if so I look forward to pinning mine on. As for him his mantra should bring about his own shoulder patch that should read "I GOT MINE"

Book Review
50 GREATEST CONSPIRACIES OF ALL TIME , History"s Biggest Mysteries,
Coverups and Cabals.
By Jonathan Vankin and John Whalen,
A Citadell Press Book 1995

Most of these episodes are interesting and well sourced from main stream and far out conspiracists.
Large print, easy reading and presented under part I thru Part XI, with an index. They run nthe gamut from CIAcid Trip through Lizard King Lives, Apollo Scam, Saucer Blitz,,Who Slew the Walrus? Potshots from the Bushy Knoll, New World Order, etc.
Lively commentary and succinct presentation, names some names and outlines the flaws of the deniability by who and why. Assumptions abound and are pictured for the reader to make up his or her own mind.
I found this book to be a good read.
